The “call to action”, otherwise known as a CTA, instructs your prospects and customers on what you want them to do next to take advantage of what you are offering. It makes no difference whether it’s a product or a service you are selling – without a call to action your marketing efforts could fall flat!

Position of CTA

A Call To Action should be in a Prominent Position – At the top of the page, just below the important information or at the center of the layout.

Clear & Concise

A Call to Action should be Clear and Concise – Use clear and easy to understand language so the reader doesn’t have to guess or figure out what you’re trying to say.

Tell them exactly what to do!

A great Call To Action makes people want to act, it begs for action from your prospects and customers, it tells them exactly what to do, leaving nothing to the imagination it invites your recipient to take the next step making them crave the benefits or features you promise.

Don’t be vague

Calls to action that fall flat are vague, confusing, and complicated. They can leave the reader hanging with no real persuasion to take the next step. Here are some examples of what not to do:

  • Give us a call
  • Call anytime!
  • Come in today!

And here are some strong examples of CTAs:

  • Start your free trial now!
  • Just hit reply and we’ll email you the details immediately.
  • Only 24 hours left, call today!
  • Reserve your spot in 2 minutes or less!
  • Don’t waste another minute, call to get started today!
  • Ask an expert and get an answer in 5 minutes!
  • Save 20% if you order now!
Evaluation of CTAs

A good call to action tells the reader exactly what they are going to get if they act and gives them a sense of urgency to take action right now, today.

Take a few moments and evaluate your own call to action. Be honest with yourself; is it in a prominent position,  is it clear and concise and have you really created the need for your prospects to follow through?
