Armagh Planetarium is the longest-running planetarium in the British Isles. The planetarium was opened in 1968 and celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2018. Armagh Planetarium is equipped with a state-of-the-art digital projector system providing an immersive experience under the full dome. Armagh Planetarium has a wide-ranging appeal to many different types of visitors from the general public, space enthusiasts, and academics.
The Challenge
Armagh Observatory and Planetarium required a fresh, modern, and clean website. As Armagh Planetarium has a wide-ranging target audience it was important that each of the core pillars of the organisation was displayed to allow each target audience to navigate to their section of the website easily. The user experience needed to be at the forefront of the design with prominent calls to actions to enable customers to make a booking, donate, and find the information they needed without fuss.
Our Solution
Working closely with Armagh Planetarium, the team at WebsiteNI created a modern, fresh, and clean website. The main homepage allows website users to clearly navigate to each of the core pillars of the organisation: Planetarium, Research, Education, Heritage, and Corporate. Additionally, to enable an increase in user bookings and donations a clear ‘Book Now’ and ‘Donate’ button is displayed on each page.
The main navigation features drop-down menus to enable users to go directly to the information they require in the fewest number of clicks. The new Armagh Planetarium features a new online shop allowing the sales of their souvenir products online now.
The website was developed within the WordPress platform with an easy-to-use Content Management System to allow administrators at Armagh Planetarium to update news, images, and content to maintain an effective online presence.
