Magento 2 or not to? Image

Magento have officially announced the end of life date for Magento 1. After over a decade’s worth of development, the Magento 1 platform will reach ‘End of Life’ in June 2020. Don’t be too overwhelmed!  In our experience, platform upgrades can be an opportunity for innovation and positive digital transformation in organisations, which provide a period of reflection as to what website features are working well and what features need to be improved.

Magento 1 – End of Life

We understand that many Magento 1 customers may need additional time to make the transition to newer versions of Magento. To that end, Magento software support policies ensure that those customers have the time and confidence to upgrade when it is right for their business.

For Magento 1 customers, Magento are providing software security patches through to June 2020 to ensure those websites remain secure and compliant.

However, while Magento are committed to supporting the success of all merchants up to June 2020, the time to upgrade to Magento Commerce 2 is now.

So… why Magento 2?

Aside from the announced end of life date for Magento 1. Magento’s unmatched flexibility enables their global community of partners and developers to deliver virtually any commerce experience in record time and at a superior total cost of ownership.

Benefits include:

  1. Better performance and scalability
  2. Better support for modern Web technologies and new ecommerce tools
  3. Better user experience
  4. Continuous development, with many future enhancements on the way!

As a result, we’re seeing tremendous community and market momentum for Magento 2 as a whole. The platform now has more than 2,000 available extensions and there are new capabilities launching quarterly. It’s no wonder that Magento 2 has over 8,000 new quarterly site launches on top of 30,000 existing Magento 2 websites.

Magento 2 or not to 2? From where we stand now, it’s a no brainer.
